Little Jaws Program

Who needs to be assessed?

All Swimmers that are 9yrs or under, regardless of swimming ability or last season's placement.

Although your child may have participated in Little Jaws last year, these assessments will give Coach Kelli and Coach Jeff/Coach Colin an opportunity to see how swimmers have progressed over the winter.  This will allow them to place swimmers in the right lane with the right coach this summer.  This is an important process in making sure your child gets the best instruction possible throughout the summer.

Our Little Jaws Program is the future of CST and our goal is to make your child's experience fun and rewarding while providing top-notch instruction. While we want as many children in our program possible, it is also important to ensure the safety of our swimmers.  

Accordingly, eligibility for the Little Jaws team is based on the following requirements.  Please keep in mind that these requirements are based on a compilation and review of other local area swim programs and feedback from our coaches regarding past experiences.  And as mentioned, these requirements are necessary to ensure the safety of your child as well as the safety of other swimmers on the team.

Little Jaws Assessment Parameters:

•   Each swimmer must be able to swim a recognized freestyle one length of the pool  without stopping.
•   Each swimmer must also be able to swim one other additional recognizable stroke the complete length of the pool, without stopping.

If you are concerned that your child may not be able to complete all of these requirements, you are still encouraged to have them assessed.  They might surprise you. 

There will be two practices for the Little Jaws Program.  Practice Group I will be from 7:15 am to 8:00 am.  Practice Group II will be from 8:05am to 8:50am.  Requests for particular groups will be accepted but cannot be promised.  Following assessments, swimmers will be grouped according to ability and placed in the appropriate lane.  We hope to have 6 to 8 swimmers per lane during each practice time.

Once making the Little Jaws team, CST coaches reserve the right to ask any children who cannot keep up in practice to take additional swim lessons.  Any children asked to supplement their practices with lessons will still be allowed to swim in our Monday night meets.
